Membership Information
The University of Chicago Women’s Board welcomes anyone who wishes to participate in our vibrant and philanthropic community. We are committed to advancing the University of Chicago’s mission of rigorous inquiry and to expanding the reach of the University’s work to a larger community.
Members have the opportunity to engage with renowned University faculty, researchers, and academics, through a series of regular luncheon and dinner programs. Additional ad-hoc programs offer members an opportunity to expand their social network, explore cutting-edge research and make a positive impact on the University of Chicago community. Various volunteer and leadership opportunities are also available for those who wish to commit more time to the Women’s Board and to work with other board members, faculty, and staff through committee work. These include the Executive, Steering, Grants, Membership and Programs committees.
The Women’s Board is proud of its philanthropy to the University through its grants program. The board has raised $10M over the past 15 years to support various scientific, medical, and academic research, arts and cultural programs, student life enrichment, and community outreach. All members are encouraged to participate in the annual grant-making process which takes place in the spring. Those who do say it is one of their most fulfilling experiences with the Women’s Board.
We invite both University-affiliated and non-affiliated members to join—you need not be an alumn, parent, faculty or staff. We simply ask that all members commit to advancing the Women’s Board mission of Intellectual Engagement, Philanthropy, and Community Building.
Intellectual Engagement
Through monthly programming and special events, our members confront both timely and timeless issues addressed by University of Chicago faculty. Programs connect our members with the breadth, depth, and world-class thought leadership of the University of Chicago.
Philanthropy
Through the power of collective giving, our members amplify the work of faculty, staff, and students through selecting and funding University grants with immediate and lasting impact. 100 percent of members’ contributions fund these grants. All members are encouraged to give at least $1,000 per year to the Women’s Board Grant Fund.
Community Building
Our work connects members with one another to forge strong social and professional relationships. We are a growing, vibrant community who value direct interaction with this preeminent university that is improving lives and changing the world.
